Sports car fans have long been waiting for Cadillac to release a coupe version of its hot CTS. Sure, you could buy an XLR coupe, but that just isn’t in most buyers’ price range. The upcoming CTS coupe, which will be affordable, was delayed due to GM’s bankruptcy restructuring, but is finally ready to hit the showroom with its 304 horses.
The CTS coupe will sit on a shortened CTS sedan wheelbase and will have a more aggressive ride height, being 2 inches shorter than its sedan brother. The front fascia will also boast unique design cues, including enlarged openings for better brake cooling. The rear will sport a diamond cut mesh grille surrounding the centered exhaust tips.
Adding a little style to the CTS Coupe are the push button doors which will ditch the handles altogether, hiding the buttons behind an opening, similar to the new Chevy Corvette.
The CTS Coupe will come standard with the upgraded engine offered for the CTS sedan. The 3.6 liter direct injected six cylinder is good for 304 hp and will come standard with a six speed manual transmission. A six speed automatic transmission will be an available option for those not willing to row through gears. Expect a very respectable 27 mpg on the highway thanks to a deep sixth gear.
The Performance package will start with 18 inch wheels and all-season tires. A summer tire performance package is also available with an upgrade to 19 inch wheels. The summer tires are only available with rear-wheel drive, but the base performance package can be loaded with optional all-wheel drive. Lastly, a rear limited slip differential is standard on both packages, a huge performance bonus as compared to using electronically controlled braking to manage wheel spin.
Expect the interior to be similar to the CTS sedan, although special coupe styling cues are likely.
Cadillac plans on unveiling the CTS Coupe at the L.A. show followed by a CTS Coupe ‘V’ model to be released a few months after the sedan.
