To launch the 2011 Ford Fiesta in America, Ford decided to give a Fiesta to 100 “agents” for six months to help spread the word. The Fiesta is a premium small car that currently sells very well in Europe, but Ford’s challenge in the states is to convince people that there is such thing as a “premium” small car. We’ve seen some interesting videos from the Fiesta Agents, but none as exciting as BBC’s Top Gear. While they aren’t technically Fiesta Agents, they sure do a great job thoroughly testing the Fiesta, including having it chased by a Corvette inside a Mall. Check it out!
Ford made updates to its Mustang for 2010, and even won a few comparison tests against the Chevy Camaro and Dodge Challenger, but it still lagged behind in horsepower, by a vast margin. Ford’s Mustang GT V8 engine only has 315 hp, compare that to the Camaro’s 426 hp and the Challenger’s 376 hp. To be fair, the Mustang has a smaller V8, but 315 hp is a number you’re more accustomed to seeing on a V6 spec sheet. Ford is going to correct this for 2011, and we’re impressed!
If you’re anything like the writers of Accel Times, you’ve learned to recognize a Crown Victoria’s headlights in your rear view mirror. Why? Well, if you’re speeding, those lights mean only one thing, a $180 traffic ticket. Ford has just announced that the Crown Vic, and the Crown Vic Police Cruiser, will no longer be produced after 2011.
With its lime green paint job, flared fenders, and rally inspired wing, the 2009 Ford Focus is definitely something to be noticed, especially considering the fact that Ford retarded the spark timing to encourage the exhaust to “pop” when you lay off the 20.3 psi of turbocharged boost at redline. The heavily modified Volvo-engineered inline-5 is enough to impress most, thanks to an 8.5:1 compression ratio, with variable valve timing, graphite coated cylinder bores, silicon aluminum pistons, a forged crankshaft, and a Borg Warner K16 turbo. With a top speed of 163 mph, and enough juice to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5.9 seconds, this isn’t your grandma’s Focus.
After proving itself off-road by surviving the Baja 1000 with a podium finish, the heavily modified Ford SVT Raptor is quickly proving itself in the showroom as well. Interest in the new truck has exceeded Ford’s expectations; more than 300,000 people having visited its website and 1,500 have already placed an order for the new truck.
Ford launched its Super High Output Taurus in 1989 when they placed a 220 horsepower Yamaha built V6 into their family sedan. The SHO model lasted ten years and sold roughly 100,000 examples. At that time, the SHO was all about power, and starting this August, the power will return via a 365 hp, 350 ft-lb twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6.
