Audi has just released photos of its new S5 Sportback 5 door coupé, confirmed to debut next month at the Frankfurt Motor Show. As with all S models, expect increased performance, most notably under the hood. The S5 will feature a 3.0 liter engine turbocharged to produce 333 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque between 2900 and 5300 rpm.
Audi claims the S5 will reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.4 seconds and go up to an electronically limited 155 mph, all while averaging 24 mpg on the EU combined cycle. Power will be routed through a seven speed S-tronic dual clutch transmission and Quattro permanent all-wheel drive. For even more performance, buyers can check off the option for the sport differential which variably distributes power between the rear wheels depending on traction and acceleration forces. Standard features for the S5 are 18 inch aluminum wheels with 245/40 tires and black brake calipers displaying the S emblem up front. Also standard is an electronic steering system which adjusts with vehicle speed.
Audi S5 Sportback sales begin in Spring 2010 in Europe and start at 57,900 euros. Unfortunately for American consumers, there are no plans yet to bring the S5 to American shores. Check Accel Times for more information this September during the Frankfurt Motor Show.
