Honda’s quest to become king of hybrids continues with the announcement that the CR-Z will go into production and be on sale in 2010. The CR-Z will be based on the concept vehicle seen below, which made its debut at the North American International Auto Show in 2008. Shorthand for “Compact Renaissance Zero,” the CR-Z looks to deliver spirited performance while keeping fuel consumption and emissions at a minimum. The CR-Z will use Honda’s Integrated Motor Assist technology, the same technology as in the recently redesigned Insight. Horsepower is expected to be a combined 140 horsepower, which should please fans of the lightweight CR-X two-seater that Honda sold in the US from 1983 to 1991.
Honda has confirmed that the CR-Z will go on sale in Japan in February 2010, but has yet to release any information on when the coupe will reach U.S. showrooms.
