Following a bankruptcy reorganization and a recent loss of control to Fiat Group, the Dodge Viper was slated to cease production in December 2009. Luckily for the V10 sports car’s enthusiasts, Chrysler just announced that the Dodge Viper will continue production at its Conner Avenue Assembly plant, where it has been assembled since 1995.
“The Dodge Viper has successfully captured the hearts and imagination of performance enthusiasts around the globe,” said Mike Accavitti, President and Chief Executive Officer, Dodge Brand. “We’re extremely proud that the ultimate American-built sports car with its world-class performance will live on as the iconic image leader for the Dodge brand."
Dodge has been building the Viper since May 1992, and in 2008, Dodge introduced the fourth generation Viper SRT10. The latest edition has an 8.4 liter, 600 hp V10 capable of reaching 60 mph in less than 4 seconds. About 25,000 Dodge Vipers have been built since its inception, and Chrysler Group is now betting on continued interest for the all-American muscle car.
