Apparently Aston Martin was not swayed by the current global recession, as it recently unveiled its new $1.7 million USD flagship sports car, the One-77 at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este, at Lake Como, Italy. The One-77 stunned viewers at the show, and took the event’s design award. The supercar will debut in North America at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in August. The car is so exclusive that only 77 examples will be sold, rolling off the line later this year, and completing production in the end of 2010.
The One-77 is a wonderful combination of artistic design and engineering. Power output is immense, coming from 7.3 liter aluminum V12. Peak power of 750 hp comes at a stratospheric 7500 rpm, and a maximum torque of 550 lb-ft arrives at 5000 rpm. All this power is transferred through a 6 speed paddle shift manual transmission. Thanks to the extremely rigid and light carbon fiber monocoque, this powerful Aston only needs to push around 3,300 lbs. This combination should catapult to 60 mph in around 3.5 seconds, and reach an estimated 212 mph top speed.
Controlling all this speed will be a set of vented carbon-ceramic discs and massive Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires measuring 255 mm in the front and 335 mm in the rear.
Even though all this power is available, Aston Martin was quick to point out that this isn’t simply a power race with Bugatti’s Veyron. The One-77 is a customizable piece of art. Buyers will be able to customize nearly every part of the car, from the interior trim and seats to the gearbox, assuring One-77 owners a truly unique car. The car’s suspension isn’t even pre-determined, as factory engineers will customize each example to fit the owner’s driving style. According to Aston’s CEO Ulrich Bez, each One-77 will essentially fit the owner like a fine tailored suit.
